About the event

On 14 June at 20.00 Riga is going to welcome and Icelandic musician and multi-artist Örvar Smárason, who is a founder of a popular Icelandic band “müm” and long-term member of FM Belfast and übergroup Team Dreams.

Apart from his solo works, Örvar has released many albums, film scores, theatre music and many other projects. Örvar is a recognized writer and poet, his pieces are being translated into Italian, Japanese and German. He has issued several novels and poetry books, sometimes even creating the illustrations for the books himself. He is also writing lyrics for music bands like Benni Hemm Hemm and Retro Stefson and Icelandic musician Ásgeir Trausti. He is passionate about visual arts, his works were presented in numerous exhibitions, and he has released two drawing books. The artist has been studying script writing at Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU), he has got a bachelor’s degree in film theory and history and master’s degree in creative writing at University of Iceland.

In 2018, Örvar released 2 albums: Team Dreams and Light is Liquid. This year his latest album called Dream is Murder has been released. With his friends Sin Fang and Soley, Örvar has released a successful collaboration project called Team Dreams that combines the strong suits of each musician and melts the sound of their melodies together. A few years ago, Örvar took part in Latvian festival “Laba Daba” with his band “müm”, and before that he made a record in the studio of Latvian Radio. The artist says he is very interested in visiting Eastern Europe.
